CHATTANOOGA,
Tenn. - Junior League of Chattanooga (JLC) is pleased to announce
its new fall fundraiser, Clean Sweep. The one day remarkable rummage sale
will be held at the former Goody's store next to Office Depot and
behind Applebee's on Brainerd Road. The sale will take place from 7
a.m. -2 p.m. on Saturday, October 17. The cost of admission is $3. Clean
Sweep is one of the League's three fundraisers. Combined with the JLC
Bargain Mart, located in Highland Plaza at the corner of Hixson Pike
and Ashland Terrace, and Tour du Jour, the League's popular tour of
kitchens, to be held April 10, 2010, the JLC gives 94 cents of each dollar raised, back to the Chattanooga community.
Profits
from JLC fundraisers go to the organizations the League supports. In
2007, the JLC committed financial and volunteer support over five years
to the Healthy Starts initiative. The League is partnering with three
organizations involved in the initiative: The Chattanooga-Hamilton
County Health Department's Step ONE - Eat Well program, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile and RE:START - The Center for Adult Education (formerly known as R.E.A.D. Chattanooga).
Each spring the JLC hosts Kids in the Kitchen, a fun-filled day for children to learn about healthy eating habits and exercise. This year it will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Thrasher Elementary on Signal Mountain.
The
JLC is also partnering this year with the MCR Foundation, named for
Mary Cameron Robinson, who passed away from an eating disorder in 2005.
League women are helping the MCR Foundation's Ladybug program by going
into schools and helping encourage children to have a more positive body image.
Junior League of Chattanooga also awards $20,000 in Mini Grants to Hamilton County public school teachers each year, thanks to a generous donation by Chattem, Inc.
