For our
Provisional Project we hosted two Junior League’s Kids in the Kitchen (KITK) Programs.
The events took place at the Creative Discovery Museum on their Family Free
Nights during the months of October and November. We hosted three cooking
classes each night in the Museum’s new teaching kitchen. In keeping with the
Association of Junior League’s International KITK
national program, our goal was to motivate the children to make
healthy lifestyle choices. We taught the children how to make healthy snacks
and explained to them
why it is important to eat these healthy foods.
The
October theme was B: “Go Bananas!”. The kids were taught the importance of
eating bananas and a new way to eat one as well: “a banana-mobile”. The
November theme was C: “Colorful Caterpillars”. The focus for this session was
to the show the participants the importance of introducing color into their
diet to get a variety of nutrients. We had two very successful nights with
about 150 children and their parents attending our sessions. This was a fun and
exciting project for our Provisional class. It allowed us to be creative, work
as a team to organize the event, and get to know each other better. Being a
part of the League’s Kids in the Kitchen was a great introduction
for us to experience one of the many programs that Junior League has to offer
the community.
