Junior League of Chattanooga is hosting the fifth annual Tour du Jour,
a self guided tour of the Chattanooga area's premier kitchens with the
latest in culinary design and state of the art appliances.
It will be held on Saturday, April 10, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets
are available for $10 a person until April 1. The price will increase
to $15 a person until April 9. On April 10, the day of Tour du Jour,
tickets will be $20 a person. Purchase tickets online at
www.jlchatt.org or by calling or stopping by the Junior League of
Chattanooga headquarters during business hours, located at 622 East
Fourth St. The day of Tour du Jour, tickets will be available for
purchase at the kitchen locations.
Tour participants will receive a tour guidebook, with photography
by Cansler Photography, outlining each kitchen's design and material
details. Plans for the 5th annual Tour du Jour are still being
finalized.
This year's Tour sponsors so far include Scarlett's Cabinetry, The
Tile Store, Architectural Accents and Absolute Appliance. There will
also be special presentations in each kitchen. Previous tours have
included presentations by Sushi Nabe, Fischer Evans Jewelers, River
Gallery and many other local businesses.
The Junior League of Chattanooga's cookbook, Dinner on the Diner, will also be sold for $10 each at all Tour du Jour locations.
Tour du Jour is one of the JLC's three signature events. The
others are Kids in the Kitchen, a free day for children to learn about
healthy eating habits and exercise which will be held on Saturday,
March 13, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Thrasher Elementary on Signal Mountain
and Clean Sweep, a one day rummage sale held every other fall. The JLC
also operates the Bargain Mart, located in Highland Plaza at the corner
of Hixson Pike and Ashland Terrace.
Profits from JLC fundraisers go to the organizations the League
supports. In 2007, the JLC committed financial and volunteer support
over five years to the Healthy Starts initiative. The League is
partnering with three organizations involved in the initiative: The
Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department's Step ONE-Eat Well
program, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile and RE:START - The Center for
Adult Education (formerly known as R.E.A.D. Chattanooga).
The JLC is also partnering with the MCR Foundation, named for Mary
Cameron Robinson, who passed away from an eating disorder in 2005.
League women are helping the MCR Foundation's Ladybug program by going
into schools and helping encourage children to have a more positive
body image.
Junior League of Chattanooga also awards $20,000 in Mini Grants to
Hamilton County public school teachers each year, thanks to a generous
donation by Chattem, Inc.
